The Legacy of Ernie Pyle is alive and well. Last year a group of Ernie Pyle family members created The Ernie Pyle Legacy Foundation. As time marches on, plans are being developed to continue the legacy of Ernie Pyle.
The Ernie Pyle Legacy Foundation has been approved as a non-profit 501(c)(3).
Trademarks have been registered and now approved. The rights of publicity have been registered in Indiana according to Indiana's right of publicity law (IC-32-36).
Connections have been made with all known Ernie Pyle organizations for support.
A website has been established and work is still in progress.
The Facebook page is up and very active.
Developing a close relationship with Indiana University's school of journalism.
Plan to develop relationships with current journalist and correspondents
A major event has been planned for the 70th anniversary of Ernie Pyle's death at the National Memorial Cemetery of the Pacific in Honolulu, where Ernie is buried. The date is April 18th, 2015 . Prominent guests and speakers will attend along with the military band and military ceremonies. The highlight will be the dedication of a memorial stone, honoring the soldiers that gave their lives and the journalists who told their stories.
